Dave “Links” Lockhart
Dave’s love affair with the game of golf began in the 1970’s when he saw Jack Nicklaus tearing up the PGA Tour on the old television set. Soon there after he picked up some sticks and began trying to figure out this maddening sport….and yes, he’s still at it. Growing up in Rogers Park nice courses were tricky to find. He ended up honing his game at the “Muni’s” like Waveland, and Forest Preserve tracks such as Chick Evans. These days “Links” plays as much as he can, maintaining an 8 handicap.
In 1994 Dave started The Golf Scene on the old Sportschannel. From being the Producer, writer, editor, and occasional on-air talent he just about did it all.
2002 marked the beginning of Golf Chicago on TV. Currently on Comcast Sports Net the show has garnered three Golf Show of the Year awards from The International Network of Golf.
Dave has had the privilege of interviewing some of the greats such as Arnold Palmer, Tiger Woods, Lee Trevino, Nancy Lopez, Phil Mickelson, Colin Montgomerie, and Fred Couples. The TV shows also opened up opportunities to play golf around the world, teeing it up at exotic locations like Costa Rica, Mexico, Dominican Republic, Ireland, and Scotland.
“Links” has also spent some time caddying in the off-season having looped at a couple of prestigious clubs down in Florida, McArthur and Seminole. He also gave California a try at The Preserve and arguably the best course in America, Cypress Point.
All of this history has molded Dave into the golf guru that he is. Ask him about any course in the Chicagoland area and he can give you the skinny…and I’m not just talking about your wedge play! |
